YOU   ARE   VISITOR   NUMBER:
The creation of these...two Registries, StCroix2  and  StThomas,
continues to top the list on our corporate "News" as we travel thru 2008.

Corporate update, continued:

Our newsletter,
THE VIRGIN ISLAND SHEPHERD, always in the creation process.
Has established as an online Newsletter version, since early in 2006, with the
full intention of providing news...on an ongoing and actively updated format.

We are pleased to report...that we're continuing to see a very steady increase
in our membership, as well as Member involvement.  Registrations...have also
been showing steady growth.  We sincerely thank you for your support.

June 2005, our Registry was approached...by one of our St. Thomas Breeders,
regarding including DAIRY in our Crossbred Program.  This program will work
quite well for this, as St. Croix are quite capable of Dairy, and as such has been
viewed by our combined SC-ST Board with an open mind...with positive results.

A St. Croix, and St. Thomas, Hair Sheep Dairy Program is currently established
and gaining momentum.  Our Dairy page reflects this "newest" venue.

The designation of the natural color in the St. Croix, as St. Thomas
, is both a nod
of respect...to those who have an interest in color St. Croix, as well as a definite
and equally respectful nod to those who wish to adhere to the long established
all white regimen.

The best way...to give both interests the respect they well deserve...appeared
to be the creation of two...separate, but equal, Registries.
Moving forward...hand-in-hand.

Our web pages reflect this and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy your visit...
YOUR  INPUT...was the criteria...for how this website was built.
YOUR  INPUT  is how this website....will continue to be maintained.

If you know of an event, or something, that you think your fellow Breeders
would be interested in...we always like to hear from you.

ONLINE  NEWSLETTER  -  MAY  2008
MOST  COMMONLY  ASKED...Q's  and  A's

Q.
Are you a computer based Registry?
A.  YES.  Our program tracks pedigrees automatically.

Q.  Will the original St. Croix Registry recognize your Certificates?
A.  We're a separate Registry.  They have chosen to not accept ours.
Altho this was expected, it has confused us, as we are just as
legally valid...and we recognize all of the valid Registries.

Q.  What about the original St. Croix Registry's certificates??
A.  Our Registry uses their approximately 20+ years...of printed
pedigree documentation...plus our own accumulated data, as the
evidence for purebred St. Croix registration with our Registry.
Then our Breeder's records after that.

ON A FIRST TIME REGISTRATION, we do request to view the originals...
but a scanned original...(.jpg)...may be eMailed to our Registrar.

These original Certificates, that you have...you have paid for.
...Therefore...they are your private property.
...They are never kept by us...they are always returned.

Q.  I bought unregistered St. Croix.  Can I register them with you?
A.  Our Policy...is to "photo inspect" all such unregistered stock.
Without a paper trail we have to err on the side of caution.
If you have a SC Breeder's statement that may be considered
...provided that the original Breeder has registered St. Croix.

Without any such evidence...they're eligible for St. Thomas Class B,
as a Recording, and this starts their pedigree paper trail.
ALSO.....ST. CROIX  GENOME  TESTING  MAY BE  A  FUTURE  OPTION.

Q.  But...I was told that they're purebred St. Croix.   Who decides??
A.  Without paperwork, or a SC Breeder's statement, to prove the
purebred status...we have no choice in what level they can
be recorded at.   The SC-ST Bylaws states this limitation.

Q.   WHY...did you split off from the original St. Croix Registry??
A.   We felt, and still do, that St. Croix Hair Sheep should be
...maintained by a...St. Croix Breeder based Registry.
We are still watching.          StCroix2...Web News

Farm Bill passes the U.S. House and Senate. Sheep related provisions included in each
version include an increase in the rate for the wool loan deficiency program and reauthorization of the
National Sheep Industry Improvement Center. Several additional sheep provisions are possible as
Congress finalizes one Farm Bill in 2008 for approval and signature of the President.

Disaster assistance support.  In May, Congress passed the supplemental spending bill that
provided about $3 billion for agriculture disaster assistance for losses in 2005, 2006 or 2007.

LRP-Lamb became a reality.  Livestock Risk Protection-Lamb (LRP-Lamb) insurance went on
sale Sept. 17. Sheep producers, for the first time, have available to them a product that is designed to
insure against unexpected declines in market prices of slaughter lambs. The American Sheep Industry
Association (ASI) created an industry-owned insurance agency, Food and Fiber Risk Managers (FFRM),
to help the LRP-Lamb pilot program succeed as well as strengthen the association. FFRM can be
reached at 877-957-8006.

Targeted Grazing Handbook offered.  Targeted Grazing: A natural approach to vegetation
management and landscape enhancement, a handbook that promotes livestock grazing to manage
vegetation became available in hard copy, CD version or online.

USDA purchased lamb roasts. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) purchased lamb from
processors to assist in moving additional inventory during non-peak seasons for use in the federal
food and nutrition programs.

ASI defends USSES.  ASI supports the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station against a lawsuit filed by
anti-livestock groups. The station is the only range facility solely dedicated to research needs of sheep.

Senator Thomas passes. The sheep industry lost a great friend when Sen. Craig Thomas (Wyo.)
lost his battle with cancer in June.

Breeding sheep move into Canada. The border opened for U.S. sheep producers to sell
breeding sheep into Canada.

Scrapie requirements met.  In 2007, all 50 states met the requirements for consistent-state
status as it relates to the National Scrapie Eradication Program allowing them to move breeding sheep
or goats to other states with minimal restrictions.

Canada lifts bluetongue testing. The government of Canada lifted its bluetongue testing
requirement for feeder sheep being imported into Canada in April.

Wolves move off endangered list.  In February, U.S. Fish and Wildlife announced the removal of
the western Great Lakes population of gray wolves from the federal list of threatened and endangered
species and proposed to remove the northern Rocky Mountain population of gray wolves from the list.
